Federally Sponsored Marijuana Study Backfires: Scientists Conclude DEA Should Reclassify Cannabis

“fitful, angry, and living in denial, the federal government’s reign of willful ignorance may soon end.”

For decades, misinformation has been puked up by the DEA and regurgitated as fact by America’s lame stream media. Claiming that medical marijuana is a hoax, a scam, a swindle of the worst sort– perpetrated on America’s oblivious citizens. Many knowledgeable Americans have been laughing at the federal government’s claim, seeing the medicinal value of cannabis. So, naturally, the feds took action, seeking to prove their point – that marijuana had no medicinal value. Yet the scientific evidence didn’t pan out the way they had hoped.

Oh how “the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.”

A recent study of medical marijuana sponsored by the feds and conducted at the University of California Center for medical cannabis, was originally designed to disprove that cannabis had any medicinal value. However, quite to the contrary, the CMCR discovered that medicinal marijuana indeed has a legitimate medical application. From relieving chronic pain to helping AIDS / HIV wasting syndrome, marijuana’s active cannabinoids were found to be of sufficient value to warrant the reclassification of the cannabis plant. Primarily as a means of facilitating greater research, understanding of the active compounds in cannabis. The July 2013 study was recently published in the Open Neurology Journal.

[nggallery id=1052]

Similar to a small child who has not gotten their way – the federal government has been obstinate in its refusal to recognize cannabinoids for their medicinal value – fitful, angry, and living in denial, the federal government’s reign of willful ignorance may soon end.

To the great credit of the researchers who conducted the study, they concluded that the Drug Enforcement Administration’s classification of marijuana as a schedule 1 substance within the controlled substance act is “not accurate”… as well as “not tenable.”

As most are aware, president BHO (Barack Hussein Obama) could easily hand down marching orders to US Atty. Gen. Holder, instructing him to request the DEA to immediately reclassify marijuana within the CSA, allowing more scientific trials on marijuana’s cannabinoids by universities around the country. With regards to herbs… the food and drug administration is little more than a neutered puppy – provided the herb has not been categorized, and demonized by being labeled as a narcotic by the DEA.

Should the DEA have an epiphany, and remove marijuana from the CSA drug schedules, our FDA would be powerless to regulate marijuana.

Born in Long Beach, raised on the central coast: I surf, dab, burn, and blog, though not necessarily in that order. I'm a husband, a father and a lifelong consumer of connoisseur grade weed. I don't drink booze, or do any other "drugs." I consider myself living proof that weed is not a gateway drug - If it were, I'd be in some serious trouble. Instead, as a 50-year-old ex-realtor that has been smoking weed for nearly 80% of my life (just did the math), I can only say, marijuana is safer than prescription pills or alcohol could ever hope to be.

too bad they used such weak cannabis 1-3% THC ???? crazy weak if common claims of 20+% THC in certain strains is true.

Still in all, even the weak herb they used DID provide positive benefits even though subjects didn’t even ingest the herb, but rather only smoked it or inhaled its vapors through vaporization.

My take on this is, if it changes the classification, Great!
We really and truly need an honest approach to our laws.
I hope this does lead in the direction of a reclassification, as it’s about time.

Its a matter of time until the anti marijuana establishment is radicalised due to natural attrition of the aging powercrats..when new staff ( who arent bothered by fire n brimstone) populate the halls of power maybe we can welcome the herb of help..its made me a better person..thats enough evidence for me to campaign forits re introduction to the societal landscape…imagine laughter from teenagers instead of murderous rage

Yee Hah!!!!!! What breaks my heart is that if this had happened earlier, if the Feds were honest from the start, my Dad might still be here

    • http://Enteryourwebsite... Ms. Summer

If only I’d known more about the cancer curing aspects of marijuana my mom might still be here or she would have had a better quality of life, less pain & wouldn’t have been so out of it mentally from RX drugs!!!
If I hadn’t found the substance in my teens I would have probably wasted away from at least 14 yrs of undiagnosed Celiacs disease, it helps in so many way w/out side effects! And my conservative preacher father supports me 100% & is my caretaker so if my old dad can see the benefit especially versus RX drugs with nasty side effects than the Gov should see it! And if Obama had a family member that needed pot that would be his next executive order!!!

My Mom died of colon cancer, so I got pretty angry when I found out that colon cancer is one of the cancers that
cannabis can cure. I was at a NORML conference and at the panel of Physicians that were speaking about medical
marijuana Dr. Mollie Fry said that if the patient gets enough of it, they can cure many of the different types of cancer,
and she listed colon cancer as one of them. She said the patient needs to eat it, smoke it, rub it on their skin, get as
        much into themselves as possible.

Dr. Mollie Fry has been incarcerated now since May of 2011 for growing her own medicine and giving some of it away
to some of her patients. It’s just not right. She is a hero to me and she’s in the middle of a five year federal sentence.
Our world needs people like her to help heal us. http://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle/2011/mar/23/medical_marijuana_providers_dr_m

An executive order from Obama to deschedule cannabis would invite the Tea party to make greater fools of themselves. It would be a slick campaign tactic, if Obama was only pro-cannabis. However educated Americans have instinctively expected that IF Obama deschedules, he will do this at the end of his tenure as President; as Presidents often do throw out gifts at the lame duck end of “lamestream” terms; like Clinton declaring a national park or something of that nature,..
The Supreme Court is pro cannabis. In cases like Danny Chong being locked up four days without food or water by the DEA or that retired CIA couple in Colorado who got a flimsy warrant to gustapo their home for buying hydroponic equipment to grow indoor tomatoes I have often suggested that they sue the DEA not for collateral but for being unconstitutionally organized under the Controlled Substance Act as an executive agency with unlawful authority to legislate drug policy.
But the one thing unmentioned in this article is the hemp research amendment that past the House last week in the Farm Bill. (votehemp.com) The need for ethanol fuel, carbon-trapping building materials, renewable hemp oil, paper, clothing and textiles from a cash crop that requires less water than corn has the real potential to consider hemp replacing corn at least for ethanol. So the Senators from Kentucky tried to remove hemp from the definintion of marijuana in the Senate version of the hemp amendment but failed to get a vote.
Then the House version passed last week after a food fight over food stamps and the hemp research bill lives on… thanks to the persistence of Rep. Jared Polis, Dem. Co., the good people at votehemp and the couragous Agricultural commissioner of Kentucky; despite last minute lobbying from the DEA for the amendment’s removal. Here’s the irony; hemp, even though it contains less than 1% thc, is also good food and medicine. If Universities in states that allow hemp research publish medicinal use of hemp for Chrone’s Disease, multiple sclerosis, or even nutrition programs with omega fatty acids, then marijuana can be removed from schedule 1 status as well; Unless the Senate throws their provision back in that removes hemp from the definition of marijuana.
This is happening right now folks. Go to vorehemp.com, write Congress and tell them to visit hempcar.org and let our voices be heard and be a part of American history.

I’m pretty sure the only reason marijuana isn’t legal, is because it WOULD cure everything. Pharmaceutical companies would go bankrupt. The tobacco industry would shut down much faster, with marijuana being a much more enjoyable product, and of course all the little quirks and jokes that go along with it. Laziness, more jobs focused on that field, and less of what the country would need, etc. If marijuana was legalized and taxed, yes, it would help the financial situation of our company, but to what expense? we would be cutting i think close to 8 billion dollars of our deficit each year at a minimum, releasing 97% of “criminals” who were arrested for only possession of cannabis. We would also be losing all of the vast amounts of money going into the courts for probation and other court-blah-blah-blah fees.

It relatively seems that we are most likely going to face a decriminalization of cannabis, allowing the “country” to find a compromise for everybody’s problems. But who knows. just a thought.

Follow the money – there are far too many industries with which hemp would be competitive to allow hemp to become a cash crop in America – legal or not. It’s the same issue with renewable energy – when a 14 year old kid from Africa can bring electricity to his village with windmills while America cannot manage to thoroughly move forward with wind energy, you know there’s another entity thwarting progress. Now the data fully supports medical benefits from a plant that can be grown in your own home…………think someone in some company feels a threat? Legalization is a paltry bribe away from becoming a fantasy.

everyone keeps saying they want it legal and the patients need it yet the government wont listen. Well if petitions were circulated to gather signatures calling for legalization or Impeachment for lack of it against ALL governmant officials involved you would see how fast things change. They don’t want to loose thier job because of a plant.

Backfires I guess? It solely depends on motive. Big pharma has been pushing its friends at the DEA to reclassify marijuana to a lower schedule from schedule 1 ( no medical use) to schedule 2 or 3 (approved medical use but then only approved for dispensing from pharmacies and manufactured by big pharma). This rescheduling would put an end to states rights and end the legality in co and wa and end prospects for other states going the same route. The change of schedule would also end the legality of private care givers and growers. Sad but true at this point big pharma finally wants to prove it can be medically useful so they can get exclusive financial gain from the budding medical industry, and it is only matter of time as the government departments are faced with financial benefits to support big pharma incentives. I whole-heartedly support medical marjuana but I dont want it in the hands of big pharma. The timing and corruption in the government and corporations of this country are truly appalling. I just want to share why we should not all be celebrating quite yet. This is a strategic move of big pharma and the DEA.

Hello friends, I’m from Austria I want to tell the whole world about the good deeds DR.EKUMABOR did for me, I was diagnosed of a cancer disease (liver cancer), I was told by my family doctor, that I have only 8 months to live on planet earth, I was so depressed, I was thinking about my family, I don’t want to leave them behind, I will not surely die of this cancer that was my prayer, I was told by a friend of mine that, he have heard of DR.EKUMABOR curing HIV/AIDS in that case he can also cure your cancer disease, I never believe in spell, I collected his email from him, then I contacted him via email, he told me not to bother myself, that everything will be alright, I believed him, due to the way he said it. He asked me to purchase some items, which I did, he casted the spell and tell me that am free from the bondage, he also asked me to go for checkup, the CANCER disappeared from my body totally, I am forever in debt to him, I owe you a lot Doctor. If you have any deadly disease like HIV/AIDS, ALL TYPES OF CANCER, GONORRHEA, SYPHILIS, and ANEMIA any disease you can think off. Kindly email him now on [email protected]

Passing the buck around on who has the power to do something – now they are sending it to FDA for them to test that will take years ……. then if they approve it – it goes back to >!!!! and 1!!! Just a circus full of players shuffling for the big money grab !

  • Carl Parsons

It’s all the fed. The president could change the law, then it’s the attorney general could do it, they said it was the dea, now it’s the FDA, there all full of shit, it’s big pharma. They do not want anybody to get into there money, it’s that simple. The ALA thought that v pens was a great idea, it would get people to quit smoking, then in comes big pharma, they have a pill that will work, so they give the ALA a couple million dallars, now they want to outlaw v pens. Big pharma owns Washington, and all the house and senate. anyone that thinks that things will change is living in a dream world

Good to see this post is still getting traction after all this time.

It seems particularly relevant now that the DEA has requested that the FDA reconsider the science of reclassifying marijuana to a more reasonable schedule.

When the DEA asks the FDA to “Look” at reclassifying weed … I can only assume that we are near the end of the long road – the federal decriminalization of marijuana
