Google releases Dashboard privacy tool - CNN.com

I remember a thread here a while ago advocating the use of search engines that don't log your data. Google apparently now lets you be in control of that data. I think this is a great step in keeping the internet anonymous, and reduces the amount of information people can gather on you that you don't want to. Makes me feel a bit better about using Google, which is good because I use Google to search nearly everything, and I have an android phone lol.

It says in the web history FAQ that they still keep a seperate log for "auditing purposes".If you were to clear your web history of "how to make a homemade bomb" and "7-11 near [street name here]" searches Google would still have that information after you decide to blow up your local 7-11, and could give it to the police. I know you'd never do that being a stoner, but that's just to show that the Dashboard is only an illusion of privacy, and they will always have a log somewhere.

You just have to be smarter about what words you use in the search box. Plus, they teach you how to make bombs in chemistry class now anyway. Who needs the internet?

Even if you try to beat around the bush by putting in vague search terms, if you click on the link to that special bomb making site and the 7-11 address, Google will have on file "for accounting" that you were referred to that site by them. By linking our (the users) results directly with their mode of funding (lame text ads), they can keep whatever information they want on any of us, but are willing to give us the illusion that they can't for FREE.
